Recently there have been reports of companies posing as authorised providers of Google services or companies offering Search and similar services where they take money upfront and don’t actually do anything.

These entities are engaging in deceptive practices, misleading customers, and potentially compromising digital security as well as taking money under false pretences.

One company actually made threats to destroy the online reputation of a business who wouldn’t pay, and looking at reviews online this is very much how they operate, using threats when their offers doesn’t get results.

To ensure your protection, please be cautious of the following:

Unsolicited Offers

Be wary of unsolicited emails or calls claiming to offer Google services or discounted rates and special benefits for Search results.

Like in ‘offline’ life you always want to be weary of those contacting/calling you out of the blue.

Requiring Payment Upfront

Any business worth their salt will not ask to be paid fully before they start any work and should be invoicing you with full details of everything they have done for you, ideally they will give you an outline of the work they will be providing before starting.Promising Search 1st Position

Also be weary of those promising a set position in the search results.
It is near impossible to guarantee this in the organic search results, it is only possible with Paid Search Results and those who offer promised no 1 position tend to take your money to buy Adverts for a short time and then you drop off once you stop paying, and you are always competing with other companies on how much is spent for the paid search result positions which doesn’t give you a long term solution.

Verification of Credentials

Always verify the credentials of any company claiming to be an authorized Google partner. You can check the list of Google Partners on the official Google website.

Suspicious Links and Attachments

Do not click on any links or download attachments from unfamiliar sources. These may contain malware or phishing attempts.
